Ajit Pawar, the leader of the opposition, said on Thursday that he hoped the Supreme Court’s ultimate decision on the political developments in Maharashtra will be made soon and that it would be a key decision for Indian democracy.
“We believe the Supreme Court will uphold the law. It will amount to undermining Indian democracy if the court supports the current political power transfer in the state, he warned. Pawar’s warning follows a number of applications filed with the Supreme Court against the exclusion of individuals from Shiv Sena groups led by Uddhav Thackeray and rebel leader Eknath Shinde, who is currently the state’s Chief Minister.
The Supreme Court assigned the matter to a five-judge bigger bench for further discussion on Thursday.
