For the first time ever in India, a metro train crosses a river to get from Kolkata to Howrah.
According to a top official, the Kolkata Metro made history on Wednesday when its rake travelled for the first time ever through a tunnel under a river. From Kolkata to Howrah on the opposite side of the river, the Metro rake travelled beneath the Hooghly with only officials and engineers on board.
The official referred to this as a “revolutionary step” in bringing a cutting-edge transportation system to Kolkata and its surrounding areas.
